Grid Telecom, a 100% subsidiary of IPTO, announces the successful completion of an open tender for the development of its proprietary DWDM fiber optic backbone network, with Space Hellas as the contractor and Huawei as the technology supplier.

As part of the telecom project with a budget of 9 million euros and a horizon of six years, Grid Telecom will use the rich experience of Space Hellas to develop its nationwide DWDM network as well as the state-of-the-art technology equipment from Huawei. The DWDM OSN 9800 equipment to be used, is Huawei ‘s flagship regarding DWDM backbone networks, with the goal of providing the best services to Grid Telecoms’ customers.

Grid Telecom’s new, high-availability optical network is expected to provide high-speed interconnection speeds (10 Tbps), tariff plans based on customer needs, extremely low data transfer latency (Latency Guarantee), direct activation of services and Metro Ethernet services.

Grid Telecom has already concluded important agreements for the commercial exploitation of its optical network and will proceed to the provision of high-capacity services between large urban centers of the country within 2021. Grid Telecom’s fiber optic network currently exceeds 4,000 km and is expected to double in the coming years, actively contributing to the digital transformation of the country.
